Reinventing The At-Need Lady

I’ve been in the business for nearly 10 years but seem to have hit the wall with new business.  I’m not sure what I’m doing differently but the sales have declined dramatically.  What would you suggest?

I once coached a seller of pre-need who had been in the business for nearly 5 years

She used to tell me everyone knows what she does She’s known by the entire community as the “cemetery lady”

They all know who to call if there’s a death in the family

And you know what?

That’s ok if you want to be known as the person to go to if there’s a death in the family

But the reality is she made the bulk of her
living selling pre-arrangements

That meant she needed to see folks
before the need – not after

So, though, she’d been in the business a long time

and

was known throughout the community as “the cemetery” lady

It didn’t help her sell pre-need

And I wonder if you’ve got the same problem she had

She needed to be known as “the pre-need” lady

She needed to meet folks in advance of the need

So, how did we solve this problem?

She began a program of re-inventing who she was and what she did for a living

She became known as the “pre-need” lady

She began by tapping into her own natural market

Than expanding through the referrals she generated

Fact is she can’t keep up with the business
because the amount of people she knows and the referrals keeping her hopping
