No Excuse Successful Pre-Need Selling

November 15, 2009 by David Dassow

“There are many who find a good alibi far more attractive than an achievement, for an achievement does not settle anything permanently.  We still have to prove that we are as good today as we were yesterday.”  –Eric Hoffer

There are two great ideas contained in this quote.

First, the day after a really great month, best year, top producing success, it’s time to begin a new day.

One of the greatest pieces of advice my dad’s ever given me came from a game of golf.  I had a really lousy hole.  It was awful to say the least.

But, as we were about to begin the next hole he said to me, “a new hole, a new game.”

Even if I had had a great score on the last hole the next hole starts it all over again.

This really describes what pre-need sellers must go through each and every day.  There’s little time to celebrate our accomplishments.  We are only as good as what we sold yesterday.

Learning to manage this emotionally is critical to our success.

The other great idea in this quote is the alibi syndrome.  Making excuses, blaming others, searching for reasons for our lack of sales is not a characteristic of a successful pre-need seller.

The answer is to rearrange priorities, make adjustments, quietly fix the problem and move on and sell, sell, sell.

When you really think it through there are no excuses.  Which really means that excessive bragging isn’t smart either because you’re only as good as your last sale.

Happy Selling!
