The Pre-Need Seller Post 2012

As the year ends most of us reflect on what went well, didn’t go well, and didn’t happen for 2012.

I’m not a big believer in dwelling on the past because we can’t do anything about it.

What we can do is learn from what happened in 2012 and make the changes necessary for 2013.

The key word is “change”

I’ve been receiving a lot of emails from “newbie” sellers of pre-arrangements.  Most say the same thing…

As soon as I make some money I’m going to invest in myself.

Let me tell you why that is not a good strategy.

In order to have something you must do something.

In order to do something you must be something.

“Be”, “Do”, “Have”.

I have some posts on it.

The point is most of us want to “HAVE” first.

That is we want to have achieved it before we are it.

You really need to “BE” a pre-need seller before you can “HAVE” pre-need sales.

The idea you’ll make a few sales before you learn how to sell pre-need is backwards.

If I say to you let me do a few “brain surgery”  operations before I learn how to do it…you’d probably think I was nuts.

The correct order is to “be” first.  You can’t have something until you do something and you can’t do something until you know what you’re doing.  That’s the “Be” part.  You need to learn it before you can do it.

My email box is full of “haves”.  As soon as I get a sale I’m going to invest in myself.  As soon as I have some success at this I’m going to do whatever needs to be done.

The thinking is backwards.

Another common email is; I’m out of the business because it was to difficult.

Translation:  I want to “have” sales first than I’ll do what’s necessary to get more sales or learn how to do this business.

If you’re thinking is backward you’ll get backward results.  If you’re thinking is backward you’ll get no sales.  If you think you don’t have to do anything to get sales you won’t get sales.

In order to do something to get you a sale you must be a pre-need seller.  Doctors practice medicine.  They practice because they’ve learned how to do it.

Pre-Need Sellers sell because they’ve learned to sell.  If you don’t learn you can’t do.  If you don’t do you can’t have.
