How to turn a goal into a dream

December 15, 2009 by David Dassow

Several years ago I took a long course on persuasion.  The course included new materials each month for 2 years (lots of homework) with a two day conference at the end.

The instructor spent most of the course working on US more than the persuasion.

I learned a very valuable lesson.

In order to be successful you’ve got to believe you can do it.  If you don’t believe you can do it you’ll never do it no matter how persuasive.

In a previous post we talked about developing 10 goals and writing a descriptive page for each goal.

Another word for your descriptive page is a Dream.  Dreams inspire us to become better and super achievers.  When I was a kid I used to dream about catching a long football pass for a touchdown.  I would visualize out running the defender, watch the ball in the air, and make a spectacular catch.

The more descriptive your goals the more you’ll transfer that goal into a visual dream of greatness.

The strategy is simple.

Write down 10 goals.  Write a full page description of each goal.  Make it vivid.  If it is a new car describe the color, the look, the smell, the model, the year.  Describe the feel of the seat.  Describe how it feels sitting in the front seat looking at the dashboard.

In order to make your goals work you need to take the “coldness” out and make them touchy-feely.  It’s all in the description and once you “picture” your goal you’ll have succeeded in turning it into a DREAM.  Make your goals visual, describe so you can hear them, put feeling into the description.  Cover all of your senses.

Not only will you achieve your goals but you’ll turn them into DREAMS….and yes, dreams do come true.

Happy Selling!

David…

Great idea as usual. What’s the name of the course you took, please?
