The Mystery of Successful Pre-Need Selling
April 5, 2009 by David Dassow
This question comes up a lot. Why do some people succeed at selling pre-arrangements while others fail miserably?
I’ve been in this business for 10 years and I’ve seen a heck of a lot more fail than succeed.
When I first started in the business I figured I’d out-work my co-workers/competitors. I figured I’d spend more time working to make up for my weaknesses.
Boy, was I wrong. It isn’t how hard you work or how persistent you are or how lucky you might be.
I’ll admit right now there are a few Pre-Need sellers I’ve seen who did very well because they were extraordinarily good at cold-hard-prospecting. They actually enjoyed it!
But, no, the most successful Pre-Need Sellers I’ve ever seen are very organized, methodical, and relentless at systematizing prospecting.
In fact, successful Pre-Need Sellers take the time to break-down-the-steps of prospecting from beginning to the end.
Successful Pre-Need Sellers research their market. They spend the time searching for a niche they have some commonality with and connection to groups of people.
Successful Pre-Need Sellers operate much like a business that markets to segments of the population.
So, how do you succeed selling pre-arrangements?
Spending tons of time at the office or tons of time working isn’t the answer. You know the saying to work smarter not harder.
Successful Pre-Need Sellers are organized and develop systems to free up time. It’s like taking a map out and drawing how you are going to get from A to point B.
Really successful Pre-Need Sellers have a system they plug Prospects into that does all the work; from follow-up, to stay in touch, to presenting when Prospects become porcupines (ready to purchase).
Pre-Need Sellers present to prospects who are likely to purchase (that’s why their closing ratios are so much higher).
Over the next several days we’ll be revealing the mysteries of successful Pre-Need Sellers and how you can take your sales to the next level.
In addition to the printed version I’ll have some audio as well. If you’re not a subscriber yet you should be. Subscribing has many benefits and one of the biggest benefits is more expanded material.
